          Medical Coding is the conversion of a patient's medical records and documents by a health professional or by a doctor into universally recognised alphanumeric codes. These codes are important for billing purposes. These codes are sent to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes of  a patient. For coding purposes, medical coders uses a specific set of codes namely, ICD, CPT and HCPCS. 

           ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes published and maintained by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes contains a patients diagnosis, symptoms and cure or any other abnormal findings. For instance ICD code I50.9 denotes Heart Failure. 

                        When the heart muscle is unable to pump blood as effectively as it should, heart failure results. Blood frequently accumulates, causing fluid to build up in the legs and lungs (congest). Shortness of breath and swelling in the legs and feet might result from the fluid buildup. A lack of blood flow could make the skin appear blue.

  • Irregular or fast heartbeat.

  • Persistent cough or wheezing with blood-tinged mucus that is either white or pink.

  • A lack of appetite and nausea.
  • Having trouble focusing or being less alert.
  • Chest ache if a heart attack led to heart failure.
