MEDICAL CODING

                   Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data

Roles and Responsibilities of a Medical Coder: 

1. Accurately review patient medical records and other documentation to encode diagnoses and procedures. 

2. Assign appropriate codes for medical diagnoses and procedures using approved classification systems such as ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS. 

3. Monitor coding accuracy, completeness and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations. 

4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding systems, coding regulations and reimbursement policies. 

5. Research coding questions and respond to coding inquiries from providers, other coders and payers. 

6. Monitor and track coding changes and trends. 

7. Verify codes with other team members and ensure accuracy of data entry. 

8. Provide coding training and education to other clinicians and staff. 

9. Participate in departmental and organizational initiatives. 

10. Perform other duties as assigned.
