              Medical Coding is the process of assigning numeric or alphanumeric codes to medical diagnoses and procedures, and entering them into a computerized record system.

                  Medical coders assign codes to treatments, tests and procedures that are used to submit accurate claims for reimbursement from insurance companies and government programs. This helps to ensure that providers are properly compensated for their services.

Roles of medical coder:  

1. Ensure accurate coding of medical services: Medical coders are responsible for reviewing medical records and assigning the appropriate codes to accurately
describe the services that were provided. They must understand the codes and how they are applied to different diagnoses, treatments, and procedures. 

2. Maintain records of patient encounters: Medical coders are responsible for maintaining accurate records of patient encounters in both paper and electronic formats. This includes entering patient information into the billing system, ensuring accuracy of patient demographics, and entering relevant data into the electronic health records system. 

3. Monitor and audit medical records: Medical coders must review medical records for accuracy and completeness, and will audit them for compliance with coding and billing regulations. They are also responsible for identifying any discrepancies and correcting them. 

4. Ensure appropriate reimbursement for services: Medical coders must ensure that reimbursement for services rendered is appropriate by verifying insurance coverage, filing claims, and following up on unpaid claims. They are also responsible for keeping up to date on changes in insurance policies and coding regulations. 

5. Monitor and analyze trends: Medical coders are responsible for monitoring trends in medical coding and billing to ensure accurate and timely payment for services rendered. They also analyze trends to identify areas where additional training or education
